Restore old photos

Old photos fade, fill up with specks and lose sharpness. Here you fix them in one click on your own device, without uploading your family memories to any server.

How to use it

  1. Scan the photo or shoot it straight on, with good light and no glare.
  2. Choose what to fix: dust and scratches, contrast, AI sharpening and, if you like, color.
  3. Tap “Restore photo” and download it.

What does it fix?

Dust and fine scratches: finds specks and lines that don’t match their surroundings and fills them in. Contrast: brings the blacks and whites back to a faded photo. AI sharpening: Real-ESRGAN, an open-source model, cleans the grain and redraws edges at a higher resolution. Color: the same AI as colorize old photos.

What it doesn’t do

It doesn’t invent missing parts: if the photo is torn or a large piece is missing, that needs retouching by hand. For large stains you can try the photo editor.

Questions and answers

How long does it take?

From a few seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on your device and whether you choose AI sharpening and color.

Yes. The cleanup and AI sharpening also improve old, low-resolution digital photos.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
