The NIE is your foreigner identification number; the TIE is the physical card that carries your photo and that number. You usually need it to work, rent a flat or open a bank account in Spain.

Bring everything to the appointment

Besides the photo you’ll usually need your passport, form EX-17 and proof that you paid the fee. If they ask for copies, scan your documents with scan a document and combine them with JPG to PDF.

Questions and answers

What is “tamaño carné”?

In Spain it is 32 × 26 mm (height × width), the same size as the Spanish national ID photo.

Can the background be grey?

No, the TIE requires a white background.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer: your photos don’t leave your device. The only exceptions are “Put the suit on me” and “Restore photo”, which send a reduced copy of your photo to our server only to create the image, and don’t store it.
