Photo for a Japan visa
Japanese embassies ask for a square 45 × 45 mm photo with a white background, taken within the last six months. Make it here from your own photo and download a sheet ready to print.
Drag the photo and zoom: the top of the head goes on the upper line, the chin on the lower one and the face inside the oval.

Embassy requirements
A 45 × 45 mm (2 × 2 in) color photo with a plain white background, taken from the front with the whole face visible, no hat or cap, and taken within the last six months. Dark or patterned backgrounds are not accepted. Source: Embassy of Japan.
Each embassy may ask for more
Japan issues visas through its embassies and consulates in each country, and some also ask for a digital version or a different size for the electronic visa (eVISA). Before printing, check the requirement list of the embassy or consulate that handles your application.
Mistakes that get it rejected
Shadows on the background or face, a pixelated photo blown up too much, a tilted head, glare on glasses and old photos. If your wall isn’t white, stand in front of a light wall and make sure it doesn’t come out grey; if the photo is dark, fix it first with brighten a photo.
Questions and answers
Can I use my US visa photo?
The size is the same (2 × 2 in), so it works if it’s less than six months old and meets the other requirements.
Can I wear glasses?
It’s better to take them off: glare is a common reason for rejection.
How many photos do I need?
Usually one per application, but confirm with your embassy.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer: your photos don’t leave your device. The only exceptions are “Put the suit on me” and “Restore photo”, which send a reduced copy of your photo to our server only to create the image, and don’t store it.
