3x4 photo (3 × 4 cm)

The “3x4” is the small 3 cm by 4 cm photo asked for across much of Latin America, and in parts of Europe and Asia, for ID cards, school and university records, job applications and membership cards. Frame your face with the guide and print ten copies on a single 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm) sheet.

Drag the photo and zoom: the top of the head goes on the upper line, the chin on the lower one and the face inside the oval.

How to use it

  1. Upload a front-facing photo taken against a white or light wall.
  2. Drag and zoom so the top of your head sits on the upper line and your chin on the lower one.
  3. Tick “White background (AI)” if the wall wasn’t white, or “Black and white” if that is what was requested.
  4. Tap “Create photos” and download the digital photo and the print sheet.

Head size and background

There is no single official standard for the 3x4: each office sets its own, and many only say “recent, front-facing, white background”. The guide places the head at 60 to 75% of the photo’s height (24 to 30 mm), which is what most institutions accept; if yours publishes a figure, follow it. For official records a real white wall is safer than an AI background, so use the checkbox only when there is no alternative.

Ten photos for the price of one

The sheet is a standard 4 × 6 in print with ten 3 × 4 cm photos and cut lines. Any photo kiosk, pharmacy or online print service prints it for the price of one snapshot: ask for it printed without scaling or auto-crop, then cut along the grey lines. Keep the spare copies, since forms keep asking for them.

Questions and answers

Will my ID office accept a photo I print myself?

Many national ID, passport and license offices take the photo on the spot and won’t accept yours; schools, employers, clubs and most registrations do. Check before you print.

Is a 3x4 the same as a passport size photo?

No. The common passport size is 35 × 45 mm, slightly bigger. If your form names another size, type it in millimeters in the passport photo maker.

Do I get a digital file as well?

Yes: besides the print sheet you download a single 3 × 4 photo as a 709 × 945 px JPG for online forms.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
