DV Lottery entry is done online and requires a square digital photo with exact dimensions. A bad photo is one of the most common reasons for disqualification.

Drag the photo and zoom: the top of the head goes on the upper line, the chin on the lower one and the face inside the oval.

How to use it

  1. Choose a recent front-facing photo, without glasses and with a light background.
  2. Adjust the head: it must take up 50% to 69% of the photo’s height.
  3. Tap “Create photos” and download the 600 × 600 px JPG.

State Department requirements

Square 600 × 600 pixel JPEG, 240 KB max, in color, white or off-white background, head 50% to 69% of the height, facing the camera, neutral expression, no glasses and taken in the last 6 months. Enter only on the official site dvprogram.state.gov: entry is free.

When is the entry period?

The State Department announces the dates every year; check travel.state.gov.

Can I use my visa photo?

Only if it’s from the last 6 months and meets the requirements. Using an old photo can get you disqualified.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
