No. 06 — Reduce file size
Compress image
Phone photos usually weigh 3 to 5 MB. Compress them to send them faster, save space or stay under a form’s limit.
How to use it
- Choose your photos.
- Move the quality slider, or type a maximum size in KB if a form requires one.
- Download the compressed photos.
Quality or maximum size?
If you just want smaller files, keep the quality around 70%: the savings are big and the difference is barely visible. If a form says, for example, “200 KB maximum”, type 200 in the size field and we’ll find the best quality that fits under that limit.
Questions and answers
Are the pixel dimensions reduced too?
With the quality slider, no. With a maximum size, only if needed: we first lower the quality to a sensible minimum and, if that’s not enough, scale the photo down a little.
What format do I get?
JPG, the format that compresses photos best and that every form accepts.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
