Make the background of a photo white

A résumé, a staff badge or a profile on a job portal often asks for a photo on a white background, and the one you have was taken in the living room. Pick it here: the person is cut out and placed on pure white, and you download a JPG.

Manual retouch (brush)

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo where the person is clearly visible from the front.
  2. Wait a few seconds while the AI separates the person. The first time it downloads about 12 MB, then it stays cached.
  3. “Background” is already set to “White”. Check the edges and, if needed, fix them under “Manual retouch (brush)”.
  4. Tap “Create image” and download the JPG.

When white is enough and when it isn’t

For a CV, LinkedIn, a company badge or an online profile, a white background made here looks like a studio shot. Passport, visa and national ID photos are different: most authorities require an unretouched photo, and an AI cut-out can be rejected. For those, stand in front of a real white wall and frame the shot with the head guides of the passport photo maker, the 35 × 45 mm page or the US passport page.

Getting clean edges

We use MODNet, a model trained on people, so hair and shoulders come out well in most portraits. A busy background, low light or hair the same color as the wall can leave rough edges: switch to “Erase background” to paint away leftovers or “Restore photo” to bring back a piece that was cut, adjust “Brush size”, and use “Undo” or “Reset cut” if you overdo it.

Questions and answers

Can I use another color instead of white?

Yes. Open change photo background to pick blue, gray or any color, or remove background for a transparent PNG.

Does it work with products or pets?

Not reliably. The model is trained to detect people; objects and animals may come out incomplete.

Is the result a JPG or a PNG?

With a white background it is saved as a JPG, which every form accepts. Choose “Transparent” under “Background” if you need a PNG.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
