View a photo’s metadata
Photos store data you can’t see: the exact place they were taken, the date, the phone model and more. Choose a photo and we’ll show you everything it reveals.
How to use it
- Choose a photo.
- Check whether it stores a location and look at the rest of the data.
- If you don’t want to share that data, remove it with remove metadata.
Do WhatsApp photos have metadata?
WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram usually strip the location when you send or post. But photos sent “as a document”, by email or over USB keep all their data.
Questions and answers
Why doesn’t my photo show a location?
Because the camera didn’t save it (location turned off) or an app already removed it.
Is my photo uploaded to read the data?
No. The data is read inside your browser.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
