Convert AVIF to JPG
AVIF is the newest photo format: recent Android phones, some cameras and many websites use it because it is so small. The trouble starts when a form, an older editor or a print shop refuses the file. Convert it here to a JPG that opens everywhere.
How to use it
- Choose one or more .avif files.
- Adjust “Quality” if you like; the default keeps the photo looking the same.
- Download the JPG files.
Where AVIF files come from
Newer Android phones and camera apps can save photos as AVIF, and image-heavy websites use it because it packs the same picture into roughly half the bytes of a JPG. Your browser decodes the file itself, so there is nothing to install and nothing leaves your device; the JPG is written at the quality you choose, 92% by default.
Which browsers can open AVIF
Chrome and Firefox have read AVIF since 2020–2021, Edge since early 2024 and Safari since version 16.4 (March 2023). On an older browser the file won’t open here at all, because the browser is what reads it: update it or use another device, then come back.
Questions and answers
Does the JPG keep the same quality?
JPG can’t store some AVIF features, such as 10-bit color and transparency, but for a normal photo the difference isn’t visible. Transparent areas become white.
What about HEIC and WebP files?
They have their own pages: HEIC to JPG for iPhone photos and WebP to JPG for images saved from websites. The image converter handles all of them and can also output PNG or WebP.
Can I convert many at once?
Yes. Pick all the files together and download them one by one or with “Download all”.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
